– Students at UNC-Chapel Hill will have a blast when they return to campus next month – as the new location of Lady’s Chicken & Waffles opened on Franklin Street at the former location of [B]Skis. This is their fourth location, with locations in Durham, Greensboro and Cary. They are slowly increasing the hours as they prepare for the return of the students and it will fill the void left by the closure of longtime favorite Ye Olde Waffle Shop. Congratulations to owners Damion “Dame” Moore and Randy Wadsworth. Alright Ursula, tell me when we’re going! Visit Dame’s here.

And Triangle Business Journal shared an opening date (ish) for Matt Fern’s (ish) delicatessen and it’s mid-July. It will open in the former Pharmacy Café location at Person Street Pharmacy at 702 N. Person St. It will be a mix of Jewish, Italian and Southern, according to Fern. Initially, it will only be open three days a week, before expanding that, as well as possibly adding breakfast and dinner service. When? Soon (ish). Congratulations to Matt and his team! Wake County Restaurant News

Raleigh Magazine announced this week that the trio that operates the two Soul Taco locations (featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) will bring this concept to Raleigh with a new concept, JewFro. The trio which includes Trey Owens, Ari Augenbaum and Nar Hovnanian will bring Soul Taco with JewFro at the former Morgan Street Remedy Diner by Goodnights Comedy Club and Irregardless Café. For Owens, a black from the South, and Augenbaum, a Jewish chef, JewFro is an opportunity to explore the commonalities and corollaries between various Jewish and African cuisines and how two very different cultures can come together in unexpected ways and harmonious according to the magazine. Soul Taco is known for its Oxtail and Buttermilk Fried Chicken Tacos, among other fusion recipes. Look for Soul Taco to open first, an opening in late summer or early fall, followed by JewFro. Ashton Mae Smith shared in her weekly email last week that Glenwood Avenue has another waterhole. The new establishment, called The avenue, will be located in the newly renovated space just off the old Snoopy’s, just off the intersection with Hillsborough Street. No word on an open date, and not much on their site here yet.

In West Raleigh, Michael DePersia of DePersia & Associates shared with me a recent change of ownership. Honest Abe’s Kitchen and Bar was sold to the people of RallyPoint sports grid in Cary (on Bass Pro Lane just off Harrison Avenue). There will be a slight period of remodeling and rebranding. And in Holly Springs, reader Chris Creighton let us know that Mom Mia! Italian Bistro opened its new location on Main Street (300 S Main Street to be exact). The original location is on Laura Duncan Road in Apex. They are currently doing a soft opening this week. Get all the details here.

Congratulations to Jamil and Angels Kadoura as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of Chapel Hill Mediterranean bakery and deli deli. And they just finalized the purchase of the West End Wine Bar, which they reopened as The story, in honor of Chapel Hill Nine – nine black teens from Lincoln High School who sat at a Colonial Drug Store (a former occupant of the building) booth for equal rights on February 28, 1960.
