Aurora Church to host diabetes barbecue fundraiser
Aurora Advent Christian Church, 905 N. Edgelawn Drive, will be hosting a benefit barbecue dinner for the Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora, the club that fights diabetes.
The drive-through event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 23. The public is invited.
Profits will be donated to the club’s anti-diabetes programs. Included are diabetes research, education and wellness, American Disabled Summer Camps for Children, and Diabetic Alert Dogs.
Russ George, president of Aurora Cosmo, said Cosmo volunteers will deliver meals to participants in their vehicles.
5-B’s Catering, based in Waterman, will prepare the meals.
Options are a half-chicken dinner, $ 15; dinner of two pork chops, $ 15; a quarter chicken and a pork chop, $ 15; and a hot dog meal, $ 5. Side dishes with dinners are applesauce, baked beans, coleslaw, and bun with butter.

Founded in 1927, the Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora is known as the diabetes club. The nonprofit meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at Oak Street Restaurant, 945 Oak St. in North Aurora. Dinner at 5:30 p.m. is optional. Potential members are invited.
