A Tyler business has closed, but will it reopen?
It is never easy to report the news of a business that is shutting down, so it is difficult to report this one.
It’s a familiar scene not only here in Tyler, Longview and East Texas, but also across the country, businesses suddenly close their doors often without warning which affects quite a few people here in our community because they are. suddenly unemployed. This is what happened last week to a business in the Center Commercial du Quartier Français.
It seems that Mr. Gatti’s Pizza in Tyler has suddenly closed its doors. I learned of this closure through a social network account that I am. The person posted saying she had gone to eat at Mr Gatti’s on Saturday and was definitely closed. So I took a quick stroll by their location on S. Broadway on Sunday afternoon to see for myself. Yes the building was dark with no lights on or any notes on the front door and when I was there there was a family of five standing in front of the front door debating about the place to eat as they were obviously closed.
Take a look at Mr. Gatti’s Facebook page, their hours are listed as ‘temporarily closed’, but when you do a google search, the results indicate “permanently closed”. So could they reopen? Why did they close in the first place? Was it due to supply chain issues, personnel issues or the general business climate? We’ll never know. Anyway, I just hope these former employees find a new job opportunity soon as there are so many vacancies in the city right now.
If Mr. Gatti’s doesn’t reopen in the French Quarter, there will be plenty of empty retail space because in less than a year, Five Guys burgers have closed and Pier 1 Imports has also gone bankrupt. This is prime real estate located at one of the busiest intersections in East Texas – Tyler’s Loop 323 and S. Broadway Ave.
